Okay, so I’m watching Steven Spielberg’s “The Terminal”.
It’s a Tom Hanks film, so you pretty much know what Mister Two Oscars is gonna yank out of his acting bag. Routine love story between him and Catherine Zeta-Jones, who has, unfortunately turned herself into Grampa Michael Douglas’ Baby Machine.
But there’s a subplot in the film that I thought was really cute.
The luscious Zoe Saldana plays Officer Torres. A U.S. Customs officer whom Hanks keeps going back to, on a daily basis to try an get her to approve his entry into the country.
She doesn’t.
So he has to keep living in the airport terminal.
But he has an ulterior motive for visiting Officer Torres. Turns out that a baggage handler is in love with her. Hanks goes and pumps her for information, so that the baggage handler can use it to his advantage.
One visit, Hanks asks Officer Torres what makes her happy or what gives her joy.
She says “Conventions.”
Turns out that our absolutely exquisite Officer Torres is a Trekkie.
Sweet!
And she loves going to conventions dressed as Yeoman Rand.
Double Sweet!
