When I do the Panera thing, this is my little friend. It’s an ASUS 1000HE, upgraded to 2GB of RAM.
It’s not blazing fast, and you’ll never be able to play any computer games on it beyond Solitaire, but when it comes to web surfing or word processing, then it’s perfectly capable of making all your dreams come true. It comes loaded with pretty much everything you would need to get you up and running. When it comes to writing, I could use the included Open Office, but I chose to install JDarkroom, a Java based, bare-bones, no distractions word processing program. As you can see from the screenshots, it’s really, really minimalist.
And I love that.
It reminds me of my first word processing program that I used, WordStar. I know, I know.
I’m sure the cool kids, even then, were using Word Perfect, but I loved WordStar. It was a great little program. Wrote my first stories on it, wrote my first novel on it, it was just easy and fast to use.
JDarkroom on my netbook is also fast and easy to use. And yes, it does get about 9 to 9.5 hours on a full battery charge. You won’t be watching any HD videos or playing BioShock on it, but for me, it’s a great little machine.
As times goes on, I’m going to be sharing more of my iPhone photos. As I mentioned in a previous post, I’m all about creativity these days, and the various forms that it takes, and using a small portable tool, such as my iPhone is a wonderful way to do that. It’s portable, it’s quick, there are dozens if not hundreds of applications that you can use to then manipulate the image.
The above photo was taken with my iPhone and then the image manipulated with the Lo-Mob iPhone application.
