Woke up this morning to CNN going haywire over Hurricane Irene.
It was just too much to handle, the hyperbole that came streaming into my 5am living room, so I decided to just turn it off.
Turn off the TV, turn off the iPod, turn off the radio and just enjoy the silence.
Well, the silence and the occasional car or motorcycle barreling down the street.
It’s nice.
Aimes is coming over tonight and she’s cooking for me, a rare treat, as I sometimes cook and we usually go out to dinner.
Home cooking and a Movie To Be Named Later.
Again, it’s nice.
Silence.
Quiet.
The ability to just be still and hear yourself think.
Here’s what Franz Kafka, probably a pretty high strung dude, had to say about silence:
You need not do anything. Remain sitting at your table and listen.
You need not even listen, just wait.
You need not even wait, just learn to be quiet, still and solitary.
And the world will freely offer itself to you unmasked.
It has no choice, it will roll in ecstasy at your feet.
Enjoy the day.
Stay safe.
Be cool like Fonzie, and quiet like Kafka.
See what happens.
