The Bestest Smallest Graphic Novel Collection EVAR

Can you think of one to add? Let me know!

I used to LOVE comic books.
If you’ve read any of my books, you know that Denton is quite the reader of fine, four color adventures himself.
But unlike Denton, I pretty much gave up trying to keep up with the Joneses when it comes to comics quite some time ago.  There was just too damn many to keep up with.

And as with everything, just because there’s a lot of it, doesn’t mean that it’s all good.
God knows how many issues are published each year, but I’m sure it’s in the hundreds if not thousands.  I mean, The X-Men and Batman alone probably have 10 titles a piece, right?
I still like to read occasionally, but prefer to let the dust settle, let the critics and time state their verdict and THEN check them out.

And this is all I’ve come up with.  The above four graphic novels are those who have been weighed, measured and not found wanting.
Sure, they are all classics, but they are classics for a reason.
They are the ones that I can go back to, time after time and enjoy the stellar storytelling and magnificent artwork, just like visiting old friends.

In case you can’t make out the titles, here they are (with amazon links)

Batman: Hush, Volume 1 (Hardcover)

Batman: Hush, Volume 2 (Hardcover)

V for Vendetta (Hardcover)

Watchmen (Hardcover)

Kingdom Come (Hardcover)

I swear on a stack of Previews magazine that these are all quality reads and worth investigating, even if you’re someone who hasn’t read a comic book since you were 8 and had that crush on Betty and/or Veronica, or heck, even Reggie.
I am also thinking about making some additions to the stack: Frank Miller’s run on Daredevil, John Byrne’s run on Uncanny X-Men, The Dark Knight Returns. Those three are in a definite holding pattern.

What one graphic novel would you add to my collection?
Let me know in the comments.
