My first podcast, “Bill Watches Movies” was about a year old when I decided to start another one, this one more in line with what I truly wanted to accomplish as a writer.
It was to be a deep dive, a true love letter to those vintage old monster movies of our past that we love so dear.
Each episode would cover a few in depth minutes of the movie itself, but it would also dig deeper into the story behind the story, and those folks on both sides of the camera that brought the movie to life, some well known, some unsung heroes of the period.
For the first movie, I chose the 1932 classic Universal picture, “The Mummy”, starring Boris Karloff, Zita Johann, and David Manners.
I also chose to dig deeper into actual Egyptian mythology and tell the story of the Book of Thoth, which figures prominently in the film.
With these three segments in hand, each episode would be about an hour, and would gradually tell the story of “The Mummy” and those who brought the story to life.
I wasn’t greeted with open arms by the community of hard core horror movie lovers, but it was, it turns out, beloved by the normal, awesome podcast listener whose natural curiosity got the better of them and wanted to learn more about the movie.
I pulled the plug after Season One, but they kept writing me, kept reaching out to me, kept telling me how much they loved it.
And, now, in 2026, I have decided to listen and bring back both Season One, and get started on Season Two.
To those of you who embraced the show, I thank you from the bottom of my little creative heart, and to those of you who stuck up your noses and sneered at it, for whatever reason, well, fuck you.
I’m back.
